My husband and I welcomed our first son in 2017. When he was almost 2 years old we decided it was time to give him a sibling. We tried for years to conceive, and by the time Brayden was 3.5, he had joined in on our nightly prayers that God would provide us the opportunity to be parents again, and that he would get to be a big brother.
Then, in October 2022, when Brayden was 5, we felt called to adopt. I called a friend who had adopted twice, and she had so many wonderful things to say about Mark, Nancy, and Adoption Services of Spokane. I reached out to Nancy and a week later we met with her and began our adoption journey. We were home study approved in mid December, and not even a month later got the call that a baby was born three days prior and we were chosen to be his forever family.
He was born quite early and had undergone a fairly major surgery at two days old, so we spent a couple months balancing life as working parents, NICU parents, and parents to a five-year- old. Those days could be challenging, but were incredibly wonderful and I would do it a million times for over. The day we brought Benson home, and Brayden was finally able to meet him, is a day I will never forget. It was love at first sight. Every chance Brayden got, he would tell people, including strangers, “God finally answered our prayers and gave me a little brother”.
It is such an incredible joy to watch them grow together and see how much they love each other. Just over a year later we finalized his adoption. We are so grateful that God’s plan was better than ours.
I look back with gratitude for our years of infertility because it brought us Benson. I am also forever grateful to his wonderful Birth Mama, Cindi our home study provider, and everyone at the agency. They are amazing and provide so much knowledge and support!!
Our adoption story is a bit unique due to Benson’s early birth and some medical diagnoses, but is a testament to the blessings that come with trusting God and his plans. Benson is perfect and deeply loved by so many people!!!!!
